Yes. We can see any patient that has a referral from their GP. If you require surgery in a private hospital you can opt to self-fund, however, there may be considerable out of pocket costs. You will be provided with a quote beforehand.
Although Dr Norton has a public appointment at Barwon Health (Geelong University Hospital), seeing her privately does not enable her patients to bypass the public urology outpatient clinic and surgical waiting list.

Referrals sent by General Practitioners are reviewed by the team at Kardinia Urology. The information provided is assessed and patients are triaged based on the urgency of the clinical presentation.

On average, a new appointment is 20-30 minutes.
We may ask you to present with a full blader and complete a flow rate and bladder scan. Please refer to the instructions we provide to help explain this procedure. -
Yes, a referral is required.
Referrals ensure you have been assessed by your General Practitioner and that they are seeking specialist input.
Further, you will obtain a Medicare rebate for medical services with a valid referral from your GP.
We communicate directly with your healthcare provider to ensure they are up-to-date on your condition and treatment plan, so you receive the best possible treatment and care. -
Our team will fully ensure you are fully informed about the costs for any surgery or procedures as part of our informed financial consent process.
Health Insurance funds vary in the amount of cover provided for different procedures. Our team will be able to provide an anticipated rebate from your Private Health Insurance and/or Medicare, so you will know approximately how much you will be out of pocket (gap payment).

St John of God Hospital, Geelong
Pre-admission staff will notify you the time you are required to present to St John of God on the day of your surgery. You can phone the Pre-admission staff at St John of God on (03) 5226 1344 between 1pm – 4pm the day prior to your surgery to clarify.Epworth Hospital, Geelong
The Pre-admission staff at Epworth will contact you 24-48 hours prior to your admission to tell you your admission time. If you have questions about your admission, please contact them on (03) 5271 7714 or (03) 5271 7716.The pre-admission nurses will also notify you the day before of your fasting times.

Yes. Car parking options include the following:
Myers Street and Moorabool Street – On street metered car parking.
Little Ryrie Street Car Park – 3-hour Council metered carpark. From the Little Ryrie Street carpark it is a short walk up Baylie Place to the St John of God Specialist Centre where our consulting rooms are located.
St John of God Hospital Car Park. Car parking is on site and is situated under the main hospital building. The entrance is on Myers St.

Dr Norton’s urology training has focused on adult patients. Children should be referred to a specialist paediatric surgeon. She is happy to see teenagers and young adults.
