Dr Sarah Norton

UROLOGICAL SURGEON

Dr Sarah Norton is a Consultant Urologist and Surgeon at University Hospital Geelong (Barwon Health), St John of God Hospital (Geelong) and Epworth Hospital (Geelong).

Caring for both men and women, Sarah is proficient in all aspects of general urology and takes a multidisciplinary approach. She is thorough in her management, partnering with each patient with empathy and respect, and ensuring they are active participants in their healthcare decisions.

Sarah’s areas of interest and expertise include:

  • Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery of the prostate and kidney. 

  • Oncological surgery, including radical cystectomy for bladder cancer and open nephrectomy for renal cancer.

  • Laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic nephrectomy.

  • Minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones, including percutaneous nephrolithotomy and all endoscopic procedures.

  • Benign prostatic obstruction management, including TURP and Urolift. 

Well known for being a “country” girl, patients find talking to Sarah very easy. 

After commencing her urology training in Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, Sarah spent twelve months in “sunny” Glasgow in the United Kingdom. Her fellowship training enabled her to concentrate on complex cancer cases and minimally invasive stone surgery.

Sarah has subsequently taken up the mantle of mentoring others, actively training and supervising interns and junior medical staff in her role at Barwon Health. She also enjoys supporting trainee urologists on their hospital rotations. 

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys time with her family and travelling. She especially enjoys hiking and being out in the elements.

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Adam is a Nurse Practitioner with extensive urology experience spanning 15+ years is complemented by postgraduate qualifications in urological cancers, sexual health and cancer counselling, as well as continence management.

He consistently provides comprehensive patient care in a professional yet compassionate manner for those undergoing urological cancer surveillance and treatment, experiencing bladder dysfunction symptoms, as well as men (and their partners) facing sexual function challenges.

In addition to his postgraduate qualifications, Adam has also completed advanced training and fellowships in Sweden, Canada and the United States.

Adam has been a recipient of many scholarships and awards throughout his career, with the most illustrious being the Australian and New Zealand Urological Nurses Society (ANZUNS) Diamond Award, which is the most prestigious recognition from ANZUNS. This award recognises exceptional dedication, expertise and commitment to the field of urology nursing. He has also given presentations at numerous state and national urology conferences. Adam remains a committed and active member of a number of professional organisations, including Chair of the ANZUNS Nurse Practitioner Special Interest Group and previously represented all urology nurses of Victoria/Tasmania at a national level. 

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice Registered Nurse who has completed a Master's degree and is endorsed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). NPs are qualified to provide specialised patient care, including diagnosing diseases, prescribing medications, ordering pathology and radiology investigations, and refer patients to other specialists as needed.
